Virtual Mental Health First Aid Training

Updated: Apr 12, 2021

As a Mental Health First Aid facilitator, I believe it's really important that this training reach as many people as possible. That's why I'm so pleased that the Mental Health Commission of Canada has introduced virtual training making it even easier for you to complete the course.

What Is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. Course participants will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

  • Talk about declines in their mental well-being

  • Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being

  • Reach out to these support

  • Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis

  • Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

How The New Mental Health First Aid (Basic) Virtual Course Is Taught

These new courses include a blended model of teaching.

1. Virtual MHFA course participants complete a self-directed online module first. This online module is engaging with videos and interactive elements. Participants will receive a participant reference guide.

2. Virtual MHFA course participants will participate in two virtual classroom training sessions with an instructor. Each of these sessions are 3 hours in length. These sessions can be completed from anywhere with a computer and high speed internet connection.

This is a certificate course.

This training qualifies for professional development CEUs for many organizations. Please connect to learn more.
